Critical theory of cyber risk
Critical Theory of Cyber Risk
This symposium will bring together an interdisciplinary group of scholars working in security studies, cyber security and STS, with to discuss and develop critical perspectives on cyber risk and their theoretical and epistemological underpinnings.
A growing body of literature has emerged in recent years addressing cyber risk from critical and social scientific standpoints. This symposium aims to clarify key theoretical questions, to unpack shared agendas and to define key debates for the critical cyber risk community.
To organise the discussion, we will focus on three key topics on which speakers will be invited to take a position from the point of view of their own research:
1. The reality of cyber risk: constructivism, realism and beyond
2. The boundaries of cyber risk: especially cyber security and cyber risk
3. The normative orientation of cyber risk scholarship: problem solving and critique
The event is funded by the UKRI-funded Scaling Trust project and organised by Matt Spencer, m.spencer.1@warwick.ac.uk
