An event in collaboration with the School of Advanced Study, London and the Society and Culture Interdisciplinary Research Spotlight, 91Ӱ��ƽ��, and co-designed with the Faculty of Arts and IAS.

This event will bring together academics, community organisations and regional policymakers from across the West Midlands to explore how universities and communities can work together to maximise the social, cultural and regional impact of arts and humanities research.

Drawing on insights from Warwick's Community-University Partnerships Project, the programme will feature discussion, case studies and a collaborative workshop focused on developing reciprocal and sustainable partnership models.

Langar, the Sikh community kitchen, is a central yet understudied Sikh practice and institution. Rooted in the principles of seva, equality and collective care, it is today practised not only in gurdwaras but in a growing range of other social and institutional settings. This workshop seeks to create a space for dialogue between representatives of Sikh organisations and academics working on langar from social science and public health perspectives.

Biographies:

Patricia Kauark-Leite - 1994 to present: Titular Professor (Philosophy), 2001 to 2004: Docteur de l'Ecole Polytechnique (CREA)

Rita Velloso - Associate/permanent professor at the School of Architecture at UFMG (since 2012). PhD in Philosophy from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2007), with a doctoral internship at McGill University, Montreal, CA (2005). Visiting Researcher at the Walter Benjamin Archive/ Akademie der Künste, Berlin (2025). Senior Fellow at Zukunftskolleg / Universität Konstanz (2025).

Anna Coli - currently postdoctoral researcher at the IEAT Darcy Ribeiro Chair, based at the Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies (IEAT/UFMG). She coordinates the research group REDD (Network for Studies on Democracy and Disinformation) and works on philosophy and digital culture. She holds a PhD (cotutelle) from the University of Wuppertal (Germany) and Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic).

The short seminar will discuss how AIAS actively creates frameworks and formats that support peer-to-peer networks and cohort-building through structured activities such as research feedback sessions, interdisciplinary exchanges, and collaborative initiatives like writing and discussion groups. Particular attention will be given to how these cross-disciplinary and cross-faculty formats strengthen engagement among ECRs, cultivate and foster a shared sense of community and belonging, and enable lasting networks of mutual support and collaboration across the university.

Malene Friis Hansen, AIAS-AUFF Fellow

Biographies:

Malene Friis Hansen is an interdisciplinary scholar and practitioner studying human–other-primate interfaces in Indonesia and Malaysia through methods from Ethology, Ecology, and Ethnography. Since September 2025, she has been a Post doc and an AIAS-AUFF Fellow at the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies, Aarhus University. She holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Copenhagen, and her postdoctoral work has been in Anthropology at Princeton University.

Andreas Roepstorff is Director of the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies and a Professor at the Department of Anthropology at Aarhus University. His research spans anthropology, cognitive science, and neuroscience, with a particular focus on human cognition, culture, and social interaction. His work combines interdisciplinary approaches across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. As Director of AIAS, he works to strengthen international and interdisciplinary research collaboration and develop research talent. His work is widely recognized for bridging scientific disciplines and fostering innovative research environments.
